Understanding it

What causes volume loss?

Volume loss happens as the fat pads in your face shrink and shift, and as bone slowly changes shape. The skin has less support underneath, so the face can look flatter, more hollow or more tired.

It often shows first in the cheeks and temples, then around the mouth, chin and jawline. Lips can also get thinner with age. Weight loss can make volume loss show sooner.

Why it happens

What causes it?

Natural aging

Facial fat pads shrink and move downward, and bone slowly loses structure.

Weight loss

Losing weight, including with weight-loss medicines, can take volume from the face too.

Sun exposure

UV light breaks down collagen, so skin has less support and bounce.

Genetics

Your bone structure and how you age are partly inherited.

Lifestyle

Smoking and heavy exercise with very low body fat can make the face look leaner.

How AMW treats it

Three ways we can help

01Restore volume

Replace lost fullness right away with hyaluronic-acid (HA) filler.

02Rebuild collagen

Support the face gradually with injectables that stimulate your own collagen.

03Balance the face

Plan several areas together so the result looks even and natural.

What to expect

Your typical plan

  1. ConsultationYour provider studies your face from every angle, talks through your goals and gives you a written plan with the total price.
  2. Treatment visitFiller is usually placed in one visit. Sculptra® is usually 2–3 visits spaced several weeks apart.
  3. Results buildFiller shows right away and settles over about 2 weeks. Sculptra® and Radiesse® keep improving as collagen builds over months.
  4. MaintainYour body slowly breaks down these products, so most people plan touch-ups every 1–2 years, depending on the product and area.

An honest note: The goal is to restore what’s been lost, not to overfill. Results vary, and a small amount placed well usually looks better than a lot. If your face has changed quickly without a clear reason, such as sudden weight loss you can’t explain, please see your doctor before treatment.

Questions

Frequently asked

Still unsure? Call us and we’ll talk it through.

What’s the difference between filler and Sculptra®?

Hyaluronic-acid filler adds volume right away. Sculptra® works gradually by helping your body make its own collagen, so change appears over a few months. Some people use both.

Will I look overdone?

Our aim is a natural look that fits your face. Your provider plans conservatively and can add more at a follow-up visit if needed. It’s easier to add than to take away.

How long does filler last?

Most hyaluronic-acid fillers last about 6–18 months, depending on the product, the area and your body. Sculptra® and Radiesse® results can last a year or longer. Your provider will give you a realistic range for your plan.

Can filler be reversed?

Hyaluronic-acid fillers can usually be dissolved with an enzyme if needed. Sculptra® and Radiesse® can’t be dissolved the same way, which is one reason careful planning matters.

I lost weight and my face looks hollow. Can you help?

Often, yes. Weight loss can take volume from the cheeks and temples. Fillers or collagen-stimulating injectables can restore some of that support. We usually suggest waiting until your weight is stable.

Does it hurt?

Most fillers contain a numbing medicine, and topical numbing can be added. Most people feel pressure and some mild discomfort. Any soreness usually fades within a few days.

Is there downtime?

Swelling or bruising for a few days is common with filler. Sculptra® has minimal downtime but comes with an at-home massage routine. Most people go back to work the same day or the next.

Who shouldn’t have these treatments?

Some treatments aren’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infections, certain medical conditions or some medications. Your provider reviews your health history before recommending anything.

Start with a consultation.

Your provider assesses your skin and goals and gives you a written plan with the total price before anything is booked.
