What is skin laxity?
Skin laxity is the loss of firmness and “snap-back” in the skin. It happens as the collagen and elastin that hold skin taut break down faster than your body replaces them, and as the fat and bone underneath slowly lose volume.
It usually shows first along the jawline, under the chin and on the neck, then in the cheeks and around the eyes. It can also affect the arms, abdomen and thighs, especially after weight loss or pregnancy.

- Loose neck skinLaxity or bands under the chin

What causes it?
Natural aging
Collagen production slows from your mid-20s, and elastin fibers weaken over time.
Sun exposure
UV light breaks down collagen and elastin. It’s the biggest cause you can control.
Weight change
Significant weight loss can leave skin that has stretched without the support underneath.
Volume loss
Fat pads and bone in the face gradually shrink, so skin has less to drape over.
Lifestyle
Smoking, poor sleep and dehydration all speed up collagen breakdown.
Three ways to firm & lift
Stimulate new collagen in the skin itself with RF microneedling.
Replace lost volume and structure with collagen-stimulating injectables.
Reposition tissue with dissolvable PDO threads.

Your typical plan
- ConsultationYour provider assesses your skin, anatomy and goals, and gives you a written plan with the total price.
- Treatment seriesMost tightening plans are 3 sessions about 4 weeks apart. Injectables are often done in 1–2 visits.
- Results buildCollagen takes time. Most people see steady improvement over 3–6 months.
- MaintainA yearly touch-up session helps keep results as your skin continues to age.
An honest note: Non-surgical treatments work best for mild to moderate laxity. If you have a lot of loose skin, a surgical opinion may serve you better, and we’ll tell you that at your consultation.
Frequently asked
Still unsure? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Can loose skin be treated without surgery?
Yes, for mild to moderate laxity. RF microneedling, collagen-stimulating injectables and PDO threads can improve the look of loose skin without incisions. Results are more subtle than a surgical lift, and more advanced laxity may need a surgical opinion.
What is the best treatment for sagging skin?
It depends on the cause. If the skin itself is thin and crepey, RF microneedling is usually the starting point. If the face has lost volume, Sculptra® or Radiesse® restore support. Many people get the best result from a combination. Your provider will recommend a plan after assessing you.
Does RF microneedling really tighten skin?
RF microneedling delivers controlled heat into the deeper layers of the skin, which triggers your body to produce new collagen and elastin. The change is gradual and builds over several months. Results vary from person to person.
How many treatments will I need?
Most RF microneedling programs are 3 sessions about 4 weeks apart. Sculptra® is usually 2–3 sessions. Radiesse® and PDO threads are often a single visit. Your provider confirms the plan and total price before you start.
Is there downtime?
Expect redness for 1–3 days after RF microneedling. Injectables and threads can cause some swelling, tenderness or bruising for a few days. Most people return to work the same day or the next.
Can treatments be combined?
Yes. Combining approaches is common: for example, RF microneedling to tighten the skin with Sculptra® or Radiesse® to restore volume. Your provider will plan the order and spacing.
When will I see results, and how long do they last?
Injectables show a change right away. Collagen-based results build over 3–6 months and can last a year or longer. Your skin keeps aging, so many people plan a yearly maintenance session.
Who shouldn’t have these treatments?
Some treatments aren’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infections, certain medical conditions or some medications. Your provider reviews your health history before recommending anything.
Start with a consultation.
